Frisco Trails Montessori is donating $10 per student in our school to the Red Cross Haiti Fund. Our educators have been teaching the students about Haiti and have discussed the earthquake. We will continue to seek ways that our school can aid the children of Haiti and also help the Montessori community in Haiti.
Dear Parents,
Montessori teachers and parents are committed to teaching children about the importance of helping others. When tragedy strikes unexpectedly, taking quick action to come together truly teaches children how important it is to offer immediate help to those who are suffering and in need of help.
The January 12th earthquake in Haiti affected Montessori preschools in the towns of Port-au-Prince, Leogane and Jacmel, however the extent of the damage of those schools is not yet known. The Montessori teacher training center in Port-au-Prince was completely destroyed. Montessori Model United Nations is working with the Bouceldart Montessori School in Port Au Prince to coordinate relief.
In 1983, the Peter Hesse Foundation was created to bring Montessori education to the children of Haiti. Right now the first priority is to save lives of the survivors and to provide the basic needs: water, food, basic medical care and shelter. Building up what is destroyed and saving the Montessori system for deprived children in Haiti is already in the planning phase, which will be further developed soon.
